Belcarra native to make Wrexham loan switch a permanent move

Mayo's Luke McNicholas will see his loan deal at Wrexham AFC made permanent in the coming weeks, according to Sligo Rovers manager John Russell

Sligo Rovers manager John Russell has confirmed that Luke McNicholas' loan deal at Wrexham AFC will be made permanent in the coming weeks.

McNicholas, a native of Belcarra, Co Mayo, made his move to the League Two side owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhinney in August with an option to buy.

Bit O'Red manager Russell told the media last Friday that McNicholas's loan will be made permanent in the January transfer window.

“That will be a permanent deal. It always was. It was the optics at the time and during the window he went during a loan, I think that will be officially confirmed during the window in January,” Russell said.

The 23-year-old made his Wrexham debut in the EFL Trophy in October but is yet to play a league game. His playing days began at his local club Manulla.

Another Mayo shot stopper, 18-year-old Conor Walsh, is currently in line to be the first-choice keeper at Sligo Rovers but Russell is expected to bring in another goalkeeper as competition for the highly rated Westport man.
