A recount of the votes in the Swinford Local Electoral Area will take place tomorrow morning.
After five counts and with three seats up for grabs, Adrian Forkan (FF) had 1,668 votes, John Caulfield (FF) had 1,641 votes, Neil Cruise (FG) had 1,637 votes and John Sheahan (SF) had 1,636 votes. Gerry Murray (SF) had already been deemed elected surpassing the quota on the third count.
Returning officer John Condon deemed Forkan, Caulfield and Cruise to be elected. However, he acceded to a request from Sheahan for a recount.
Mr Condon added that he will give further details of the recount tomorrow morning. He said the counting for the Ballina LEA will also begin tomorrow morning.
The Westport count remains ongoing.
