Fianna Fáil councillor Sean Carey took the third and final seat in the Belmullet electoral area on Sunday, with party colleague Paul McNamara and Gerry Coyle of Fine Gael also retaining their places on Mayo County Council.
Carey, who has been in the seat since 2019, was “proud and privileged” to get over the line on the fifth count ahead of Sinn Féin’s Rosaleen Dixon-Lally.
“It is great to get endorsed by the people for a second occasion,” Carey told
.“It was a massive canvas and I had a brilliant team behind me. I called to every house in Erris, so it was great to meet everyone. The public voiced their concerns and I got very encouraging responses on the doorsteps.
“I will aim to continue the work that I have been doing, try to help as many people as possible and represent the area as best I can.”
