Intoxicated Westport man was giving out about ‘foreigners’

Castlebar District Court heard that the defendant has several previous convictions.
A man was discovered in a drunken state talking about ‘foreigners’, a court heard.
Jarleth Geraghty, aged 38, of Homelea, Lecanvey, Westport, pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to public order breaches.
On December 2, 2023, Geraghty was discovered slumped on Shop Street, Westport. He had two grazes on his head. He kept repeating ‘Ni maith liom f***ing foreigners'.
In a separate incident, at Bridge Street, Westport, on May 19, 2023, Geraghty was found to be engaged in threatening and abusive behaviour. He has four previous convictions for public order matters.
Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client has "significant difficulties with alcohol" and was "not a pleasant individual" when drunk.
Judge Michael Connellan imposed fines of €600.
