Gardaí will make a special appeal tonight in relation to the murder of Eddie Fitzmaurice in Mayo 25 years ago.
The appeal for information to solve the crime will be made on on the RTÉ Crimecall programme.
Eddie Fitzmaurice, a draper, was found dead in the bedroom of his home on May 5, 1998.
The 83 year-old lived alone and was attacked and died during a burglary at his home.
Mr Fitzmaurice was beaten, gagged, tied and left to die over the May Bank Holiday weekend 25 years ago in one of the most shocking murders ever in the west of Ireland.
Despite the lengthy passage of time, investigating gardaí continue to meet to discuss the evidence
A murder investigation was launched by gardaí and several appeals have been made but nobody has ever been charged in connection with Mr Fitzmaurice’s death.
