Achill Tourism has launched a new mobile phone app ahead of what is anticipated to be a busy 2023 tourist season.
The Xplore Achill App is intended to make the most of the worldwide exposure Achill has received since the release of the Oscar-nominated .

Chris McCarthy, manager of Achill Tourism, said the app will benefit locals and visitors alike.
“Achill has received unprecedented media exposure over the last 12 months, and as we prepare for a bumper season, Xplore Achill is the perfect tool to allow our members to capitalise on this exposure,” he said. “Xplore Achill aims to better serve the needs of locals and tourists alike, especially in times like these when people use their phones for everything.”
The app will help visitors learn about the history of Achill, to identify local services and their precise location, thereby helping local businesses and enhancing the visitor experience. For the local community, it will be used to promote events throughout the year.
The Xplore app was developed by Galway-based company Booniverse Limited to create a digital infrastructure for towns. Achill is the first area in Mayo to become part of the app’s growing network.
It was developed for the Achill area with the support of First Choice Credit Union, Udarás na Gaeltachta, Mayo County Council and local councillor Paul McNamara.
“It will be a game changer for our visitors and our members’ businesses, and we are delighted to have had the support from our industry partners,” said Mr McCarthy.
Commenting at the launch, Joe Butler, chairperson of First Choice Credit Union, said: “We are delighted to support Achill Tourism with the launch of the highly-anticipated Xplore Local App. The app will be a fantastic resource for visitors to the island, the many fine businesses of Achill, and of course, the local community.”
