Ireland West Airport Knock has received over €5 million of capital funding under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025.

The allocation will contribute towards capital investment in the areas of safety and security at airports, whilst also supporting projects with a sustainability focus.
Mayo Fine Gael TD Michael Ring said he is delighted to confirm that Ireland West Airport Knock have been approved capital funding in the amount of €5,000,541 for 2023.
“The Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025 provides targeted support for vital safety and security operations at Ireland West Airport Knock such as air traffic control, and fire services and security. This ensures that IWAK can continue to remain compliant with regulatory requirements in these areas,” Deputy Ring said.
“I am very pleased that this significant funding has been allocated to Ireland West Airport Knock under the Government funded Regional Airports Programme. Ireland West Airport is a vital piece of infrastructure in the West and I am delighted to see this continually being recognised by Government” concluded Deputy Michael Ring.
Alan Dillon TD has welcomed today’s announcement that nearly €17 million in capital funding has been allocated to regional airports.
“We all know the importance and benefit of Ireland West Airport Knock to our County and the West and North-West regions, and the exceptional quality standards and service they provide in Knock is to be commended,” Deputy Dillon said.
€16.6 million in exchequer funding was allocated today to regional airports under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025. €6 million has been allocated to our regional airports at Donegal, Ireland West (Knock) and Kerry and over €10 million has been allocated to our regional State airports at Shannon and Cork.

“This investment reinforces the importance and value the Government places on the role of our Regional Airports in supporting tourism and jobs, and this funding is essential in ensuring Knock Airport has the sufficient support needed to continue providing their important services. The airport is now looking forward to a successful summer with indications that there will be high numbers of visitors to the airport,” said Deputy Dillon, who added that the news comes as the airport celebrated the announcement by Aer Lingus of a new year-round, daily service to London Heathrow Airport.
“This is also a welcome development for the airport and the region. It unlocks further connecting for users of the service both to onward destinations and to new visitors from across the globe.”
