The elderly woman who died following a tragic road traffic collision in Achill on Friday last has been named locally.

Anne Shannon, 80s, of Dooagh, Achill, formerly of Ballaghaderreen and Lyon, died when her car collided with a van on the R319, west of Achill Sound at approximately 5.30pm.

The occupants of the van in the collision were not seriously injured.

Beloved sister of Dawn and Ruth, and of the late Mary, Paddy, Mairead, Micheál and Una, much loved sister-in law of Patrick, adored aunt, great-aunt, cousin and dear friend to many.

Anne’s funeral will take place on Monday next with more details to come.
