A Mayo man and a Yonkers police officer both had a memorable St Patrick’s Day in New York as they were reunited after 18 years in the city’s parade on Friday.

Damian Mulchrone and his wife, then girlfriend, attended the 2005 St Patrick’s Day parade in the Big Apple and they ended up spending the day with a group of police officers who gave them a real insight into the history and culture and what the parade and Irishness means to all the department within Yonkers and all the New York districts.

Damian took a photograph with Officer Christopher Dellacamera on the day, where they posed after switching his Mayo GAA jacket for Officer Dellacamera’s police jacket.

He wrote a comment on one of the Yonkers Police Department’s social media posts a few months ago where he said that he treasures the picture to this day and wondered could there be a small chance that they reconnect.

Sure enough, Damian got his wish as he was reunited with Christopher on Friday and they recreated their photograph from 2005.
