A Sligo man who was shot dead in Australia has been named locally.

Damien Conlon, originally from Co Sligo but living in Australia for the past decade, was found with gunshot wounds at a house in Oberon in New South Wales on Thursday.

He died at the scene despite efforts to revive him.

7 News Australia reports that 57-year-old Luke Simon has been formally charged with Mr Conlon’s murder and will spend seven weeks in prison ahead of his next court appearance on April 5.

It is believed the two men were known to each other.
