The date for screening the feature on RTÉ’s Nationwide TV programme regarding the life of singer Paddy Reilly is 7pm tonight.

Paddy, famous for his international hit with The Fields of Athenry, was interviewed at his home in Rathcoole by RTÉ’s Mary Fanning.

Paddy, at 83, recalled his love of horse racing and how top trainer Willie Mullins still trains his horses. He had a winner at the Galway Races in 2017 with Athenry Boy named in honour of his biggest hit The Fields of Athenry.

Mary Fanning discusses with Paddy his book, From The Fields of Athenry to the Dubliners and Beyond, published by O’Brien Press, and how he has embraced retirement as well as being lucky to beat cancer 13 years ago.

“Paddy Reilly goes far beyond The Fields of Athenry. He is a man who has done it all, seen it all, and remains a friend to all,” concluded Mary Fanning.
