Councillors from Ballinrobe have condemned the perpetrators of a violent assault at the Corrib Oil petrol station in the town yesterday afternoon.
Cllr Michael Burke strongly condemned the attack at today’s meeting of the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District.
“I just want to condemn the attack that took place in Ballinrobe yesterday in the strongest possible way. It is disgraceful to think that the perpetrators feel that they can come in and commit an attack like this in broad daylight, in a busy filling station where innocent people were,” Mr Burke said.
“Children could have been around there and seen the massive attack that was made on an individual. I would encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist the Gardaí in any way that they can.
“Attacks like this are very rare in our area and the whole county and people carry out these kind of attacks are not welcome in our county.”
Cllr Damien Ryan also condemned the assault.
“It’s paints the town in a bad light and that is not what Ballinrobe is about and that doesn’t replicate on the good work that is going on in the town.”
Hollymount native Cllr Patsy O’Brien said more people could have been hurt, especially with cars involved.
Gardaí continue to investigate the assault on a man in his 20s that occurred at approximately 12:15pm yesterday, at a premises on the Neale Road in Ballinrobe.
