There has been an overwhelming response to our call for nominations for the 2022
Mayo Sports Stars Awards. The deadline for entries passed on Friday last, January 20 and the response, it’s fair to say, has surpassed all expectations.Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mayo Sports Stars Awards did not take place in either of the past two years and the last gala awards banquet was in January 2020 when the 50th anniversary of the awards was celebrated in the company of more than 400 guests. Irish rugby legend Ronan O’Gara, a man with strong Ballina connections, attended as the special guest.
The
is delighted to confirm that the traditional gala awards banquet will make its return this year. The event, which has always been one of the most eagerly anticipated social events on the Mayo sporting calendar, will take place at Breaffy House Resort on the night of Friday, February 24, 2023. (Please note this date is different to that previously advertised on the Mayo Sports Stars nomination form.) The function will include a drinks reception, a three-course meal, wine, the awards ceremony and entertainment. Tickets are priced at €65.The 2022 Mayo Sports Stars recipients will be announced in next week’s edition.
