Keem Bay on Achill Ireland has been named Ireland’s Best Beach in Independent.ie’s Reader Travel Awards for 2023.

Readers described the Blue Flag Mayo beach as “beautiful”, “picturesque” and “pristine.”

Keem’s ranking as Ireland’s best beach by Independent’s readers comes as Achill is enjoying time in the Hollywood spotlight as a filming location for The Banshees of Inisherin, which is sweeping up awards in recent weeks.

In naming Keem Bay at number one, Independent.ie highlighted some readers nominating comments: “It’s like you are abroad, crystal-clear water and the sand is like powder,”

“It’s just wow” and “a taste of Irish paradise”.
