The body of a man has been found near Turlough on the outskirts of Castlebar. The discovery was made during an extensive search for a missing person.

Formal identification of the remains will take place this afternoon at Mayo University Hospital. A coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be conducted. No further details are available at this stage.

An Garda Siochána will be issuing a statement on the matter later.
