A Status Yellow snow warning has been issued for 11 counties – including Mayo and Roscommon – for this evening.

The Met Eireann advisory is in effect from 5.30pm this evening until 9am tomorrow morning.

They have warned of cattered snow showers with some possible accumulations. There will be icy stretches too.

Temperatures dropped to minus seven in parts this morning with Mount Dillon in Roscommon recording the lowest temperature in the country.

A general winter weather advisory is in place for the whole country until Friday.

“Staying cold until later Thursday with an Arctic airflow in across the country, bringing sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads and footpaths. Some showers of hail, sleet and snow are expected with the potential for freezing fog. Further updates to the advisory and warnings are expected in the coming days,” Met Eireann said.
