Saolta have advised that restrictions on visits to a ward affected by an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) remain in place at Mayo University Hospital (MUH).
The restrictions were first put in place last Friday following the outbreak and the HSE is continuing to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis. Visiting the affected ward is only being facilitated on compassionate grounds.
Saolta released the following statement to the Western People: “Following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) in one of the wards in Mayo University Hospital (MUH), the hospital has advised that restrictions on visits to the affected ward remain in place for today.
“In order to help prevent the spread of infection, visitors to the affected ward are being facilitated on compassionate grounds only. This situation is being reviewed on an ongoing basis.”
“MUH requests that people do not visit the hospital if they are experiencing symptoms of winter vomiting bug or flu. The hospital would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation.”
