The Western People is pleased to announce the appointment of David Dwane as our district notes correspondent for Ballina.

David Dwane has been appointed Western People district notes correspondent in Ballina.

David will be well-known to readers for his involvement in various community organisations in Ballina, including the local Credit Union and Moy Valley Resources. He is also a former full-time employee of the Western People, having retired as commercial manager in 2019 following a distinguished career spanning four decades.

David is married to Harriett (nee Waters) and has two sons, Stephen and Simon.

Editor James Laffey said he was delighted to appoint someone of David’s calibre and proven ability to the key role of Ballina Notes Correspondent.

“We have a lot of exciting plans for our Ballina coverage in 2023 to coincide with the town’s 300th anniversary and the Western People’s 140th anniversary. I know David will work diligently with every local organisation and institution to make sure their voices are heard each week through the pages of the Western and online at

David’s appointment comes just months after the Western People appointed Paul O’Malley to the role of full-time news correspondent for Ballina and North Mayo.
