A new early morning rail connection between Ballina and Dublin is now timetabled and confirmed to begin on Monday, December 12.

A new early morning rail connection between Ballina and Dublin is now timetabled and confirmed to begin on Monday, December 12.

The train service will run from 5.05am and will arrive in Heuston Station, Dublin just after 8.30am.

Cathaoirleach of the Ballina Municipal District Cllr Mark Duffy welcomed the news as it will greatly improve North Mayo connectivity.

“It will help: Those working in the area for Dublin based employers, those who have early morning appointments in Dublin hospitals/health services, allowing students studying in Athlone/Dublin to stay an extra night of the weekend at home, allowing visitors to the area to stay an extra night in local hotels and guest houses,” Cllr Duffy said.

“This addition will also help reduce our carbon footprint and support our move to a more sustainable future.”
