A very special evening of music is in store next month in Ballina with preparations now underway for the ‘Cathedral Candlelight Christmas’.

St Muredach’s Cathedral in Ballina will be the setting for the Candlelight Concert.

The event will take place on Friday, December 9, at 8pm in St Muredach’s Cathedral and recently retired RTÉ newsreader Eileen Dunne will be the compere for the evening. This event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Cathedral’s stained-glass windows.

It will be an evening of seasonal music in anticipation of Christmas within the breathtaking setting of a candlelit cathedral with atmospheric lighting. The music will be provided by St Muredach’s Cathedral Choir and their renowned soloists, along with soprano Donna Malone and tenor Alan McGinty. The Cathedral Schola Choir will feature, as will St Mary’s Secondary School Choir and the Parish Children’s Choir. The musical director for the evening is Regina Deacy.

Eileen Dunne, who has presented The God Slot for RTÉ Radio 1 and Eileen Dunne’s Classic Melodies, is looking forward to compering this special event amidst the stunning backdrop of Ballina’s famous cathedral.

There will be a cash raffle on the night with fabulous prizes up for grabs. Tickets are €20 and will be on sale at the parish office, which can be contacted on 096-70555.
