Warm tributes have been paid to a beloved married couple who died within two days of each other last week.

William (Billy) Loughrey, who was 99, passed away at his house in Kilsallagh, Westport on Tuesday, October 25.

Then less than 48 hours, his wife Violet, who was 96, died peacefully at Mayo Hospice, Castlebar on October 27, which led to an outpouring of online condolences.

A post on RIP.ie read: ‘William & Violet will repose at Lecanvey Community Centre, Murrisk, Westport, on Tuesday evening from 4pm until 5.30pm.

‘Funeral cortege will leave McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Wednesday morning at 11.30am to Shannon Crematorium arriving for Committal service at 3pm’.

There was a large number of tributes paid to William and Violet on the condolence’s pages of RIP.ie, where their deaths were announced.

One woman wrote, “This lovely couple have gone to their eternal reward looking after each other – as in life.”

One person said, “I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Bill and Violet. They were such lovely people, and it was a pleasure to have known them. May they rest in peace.”

Another stated, “Rest in peace u lovely couple, Together in death as they were in life.”

Elsewhere, another woman said, “What a beautiful love story. Rest in peace forever.”
