A special meeting of Mayo County Council is to take place this Thursday to discuss a proposal for modular homes to be developed at a site in Claremorris town centre to accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

The meeting will take place at 2pm in Aras an Chontae, Castlebar.

Claremorris-based Fine Gael councillor Tom Connolly expressed his opposition to any such proposal at the October meeting of the local authority last Monday.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Seamus Weir has sought the special meeting to discuss the proposal further.

Cllr Connolly voiced his opinions in an interview with the Western People that can be read by clicking here.
