A fundraiser has been set up to help a Ballina man compete in the Ironman World Championships next month.

The GoFundMe set up by Rachel Webb, is for Pat Walsh, originally from Ballina. At 33-years-old Pat is currently living in Southend, Essex, England, and has recently qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, which will take place on October 6.

At 33-years-old Pat is currently living in Southend, Essex, England, and has recently qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, which will take place on October 6.

Rachel is trying to raise some funds to help Pat out with the expenses, so he can participate in this once in a life time event, and represent his homeland – Ireland.

Ever since he was a young lad in Ballina, Pat has been massively into his fitness. He was an amateur boxer for Ballina Boxing Club, played Gaelic football for Ballina Stephenities and always stood out as a phenomenal athlete.

As the years went on Pat emigrated to England where he has worked tremendously hard. His day starts around 5am and he finishes work around 6pm, to then go on to brutally train every evening in London, travelling back to Essex to sleep, to then do it all again seven days a week. These hours involve cycling, running and swimming and is after a long day’s work doing shuttering carpentry.

“Anybody who knows Pat will know that he is a freak of nature when it comes to fitness,” Rachel wrote.

“We hope that you will all get behind this amazing man, as he represents his country Ireland, and the people of Southend, doing what he loves best, and help to take some of the pressure off of him, whilst he pursues his dreams!”

If you would like to kindly donate to Pat’s cause, you can do so by clicking here.
