A Mayo guitar-maker had one of his instruments played by Garth Brooks at the US country music star’s Croke Park show on Saturday night.

Westport native Shane Davitt presented Brooks with the guitar that he made especially for him on the day.

The beloved singer-songwriter thanked Shane and dedicated his 1991 single ‘The River’ to the Mayo man.

“There’s no way I could ever thank you for all the gifts you have bestowed on me and my family, but there’s one thing I can do, give the song back, I’m going to play this especially for Shane tonight,” Brooks proclaimed to the audience at Croke Park.

“So I don’t know where to start, it’s been a whirlwind of a few days, and it’s officially come full circle,” Shane wrote on social media.

“The reason I decided to learn the guitar in 1994 was hearing Garth Brooks play The River on “This is Garth Brooks”

“I went out the next day after I saw it and bought my first guitar. Today I gave Garth Brooks a guitar and he stood on stage and thanked me and dedicated The River to me, it’s amazing where life can bring you.”

Shane on his popular Instagram page (@custom__built_guitars) shared a video of the process of making the guitar.
