At last night’s meeting of the Mayo County Board it was revealed that none of the candidates interviewed for the position of Mayo senior hurling manager earlier this week ‘were deemed suitable’.

A sub-committee is now in place to head-hunt a manager.

Ballyhaunis clubman Derek Walsh stepped down as senior hurling manager at the end of July, after five years in the job, the highlight of which came when Mayo won the Nicky Rackard Cup at Croke Park in 2021. They reached the final of the Christy Ring Cup earlier this year, but were beaten by Kildare at Croke Park. The hurlers will play in Division 3A of the National League and in the Christy Ring Cup in 2023.
