Iarnród Éireann say there is no excuse for reckless driving and have urge all road users to approach level crossings safely and to observe warning lights when barriers are to begin descending.
They say the motorist involved will be pursued for the costs of the damage while Gardaí say no injuries were reported and that investigations are ongoing.
This is the second such incident at the level crossing barriers in Castlerea in recent weeks.
