A commemoration ceremony will take place tomorrow (Saturday) to remember those who lost their lives in a civil war battle in North Mayo 100 years ago.

Six Free State Soldiers were killed on September 16, 1922 during the ‘Glenamoy Ambush’.

Captain Thomas Healy, 19, from Pontoon, Volunteer Seán Higgins, 25, from Foxford, Lieutenant William Gill, Private Thomas Rall, Sergeant Major Edward Crabbe from Galway and Private Patrick Bray were all killed after confronting Republican troops who had been involved in the storming of Ballina four days earlier.

A special ceremony will take place at the site in Glenamoy tomorrow afternoon at 3pm to remember those who lost their lives.
