The event takes place in Claremorris Library

Heritage Week takes place from August 13 to 21 with a wide range of events planned for across the country.

In Claremorris, the local historical society and Tidy Towns committee are hosting a special event in the town’s library on Friday, August 19, commencing at 7pm.

The event is entitled ‘Introducing St John’s Church of Ireland Graveyard Restoration Project, and will be provide a fascinating insight into this extremely worthwhile project in Claremorris.

There will be a guided visit, talks and exhibition, music and refreshments. All welcome.

The Heritage Council recently granted €3,369 in funding to carry out phase one of the restoration of St John’s Graveyard.

Phase one of the project will involve flora, bird and bat surveys, on-site training in graveyard mapping and memorial inscription recording and the development of a management plan for the graveyard which will include fostering biodiversity. This work will be led by the project co-ordinator, Kevin Barton, who lives locally and is an expert in this area.
