A road in Mayo has been closed due to high traffic volumes.

The road to Keem Bay in Achill will be closed for the rest of the day as the car parks at Keem Beach are now full.

“Road to Keem Bay is now closed for the rest of today as all car parks are now full we have been informed,” What’s On in Achill wrote in a Facebook post.

“Plenty of other stunning beaches to visit like Dooega, Golden & Silver Strand Dugort and Keel!”

Keem was named the number one “wild swimming spot” in the UK and Ireland on Wednesday last.

A survey carried out by UK-based reusable bottle company, Ocean Bottle, lists 20 wild swimming spots and six of the locations are in Ireland.

What’s On in Achill have confirmed that there is a guard currently in place to deal with traffic measures!
