Some of the members of Cunga Cycling Club who will travel 300km from Cong to Newcastle, County Down.

Up to 25 brave South Mayo cyclists will undertake an epic charity event next month, writes Majella Loftus.

Members of Cunga Cycling Club will cycle the 300 kilometre journey from Cong to Newcastle in County Down for a special purpose.

The group are taking part in the Cunga Daisy Chain fundraising cycle in aid of Cancer Fund for Children and Daisy Lodge, which is currently being constructed in Cong.

On September 9 and 10, the group will take on the difficult challenge of cycling from the proposed site in Cong to the charity’s current facility in Northern Ireland in an effort to raise vital funds for this much-needed lodge.

The charity can currently only support one in six families and needs to urgently build a second Daisy Lodge to ensure every child throughout Ireland gets the vital support they require.

The Cong centre will provide support for families struggling with the impact of a childhood cancer diagnosis who will be able to spend time together in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment, far removed from hospital wards and treatment regimes and create memories together.

Along with training for the challenge, the group is also organising a number of local fundraising events including a 25 Card Drive in The Neale Hall on August 27 next. They have also set up an iDonate page which has already raised over €6,500 of its €20,000 target.

You can contribute on the iDonate website by clicking here and at www.cancerfundforchildren.ie.
