Ballina man and Sligo Rovers’ midfielder David Cawley buried his spot-kick in last night’s penalty shootout win against Welsh side Bala Town in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier at the Showgrounds.

Cawley sent ‘keeper Alex Ramsay the wrong way as he slotted it to the right in Rovers’ first penalty.

Cawley came on in the 70th minute in a double substitution with fellow Mayo man Cillian Heaney.

The Bit O’ Red lost 1-0 (1-1 on agg.) on the night courtesy of a David Edwards goal.

However, Rovers’ ‘keeper Ed McGinty was the hero as he saved Jonny Spittle and Luke Wall’s spot-kick and the West of Ireland outfit ran out 4-3 winners in the shootout.

Next up, Sligo Rovers will take on Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in the next round.
