Galway midfielder Cillian McDaid was voted as the GAA.ie Footballer of the Week after his magnificent performance in the Tribesmen’s penalty shootout victory over Armagh on Sunday.

The powerful midfielder received 8,186 votes on the GAA’s official Instagram which put him ahead of Derry’s Shane McGuigan (7,612) and Kerry’s Tom O’Sullivan (4,838).

The Monivea-Abbey player was a midfield colossus for Pádraic Joyce’s side in their dramatic All-Ireland SFC quarter-final win over the Orchard County. He scored 1-2 from play, with the extra-time goal and last gasp equalising point which brought the match to penalties were particularly crucial.

McDaid was also selected on the GAA.ie Team of the Week alongside teammates Kieran Molloy, Matthew Tierney and Rob Finnerty.

Meanwhile, the CCCC met this after to examine the melee that broke out after the full-time whistle.

Galway captain Seán Kelly was shown a straight red card by referee David Coldrick prior to the start of extra-time.
