A number of business in Belmullet have been flooded following a water main burst in the town.

Local Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle said the water poured into two business premises.

“It’s bad. It’s up six or eight inches and going out the bottom of the door,” said Cllr Coyle.

Business owners were attempting to clear the water from their premises.

The burst water main has left Belmullet residents without water since yesterday evening.

Irish Water is working with Mayo County Council in an effort to restore the water supply and it is hoped that repairs will be completed by 6pm this evening.
