Kiltimagh/Knock United have blown the Super League title race wide open following their 3-1 victory away to league leaders Ballyheane on Sunday afternoon.

K/K, who were promoted from the Premier League last season, have defied a lot of expectations and have found themselves at the upper end of the table, now just three points off last year’s champions after their famous win at the weekend.

Defeat would have sent Ballyheane nine clear of the east Mayo side and would have kept them seven clear of Ballina Town, who are third on 18 points but K/K’s victory has kept both themselves and the Belleek men well in contention.

Jack O’Connor scored a terrific hat-trick in that game and his third goal was the pick of the bunch. Spotting the keeper off his line, O’Connor fired a shot reminiscent of David Beckham’s famous strike against Wimbledon in 1996 which flew into the net.

The goal prompted wild celebrations on the touchline in Ballyheane as K/K held on for the three points. All eyes will be on the next set of fixtures in the League in two weeks time as K/K host Glenhest Rovers and Ballyheane travel to face Manulla.
