The Mayo Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána at about 7.30pm last night to assist two walkers who were struggling on their descent of Croagh Patrick.

A full team was deployed to the mountain with 18 members arriving on the hill, according to Midwest Radio.

The First Response team assessed the women, one of which suffered an ankle strain and determined that they would be fit to walk down with help.

Extra clothes and two pairs of hiking boots were given to the women to help made the descent much easier for them and the team was stood down at 10pm.
