Members of local groups have come together to name a bench after a retiring Mayo woman who has served her community for decades.

Members and leaders of Louisburgh Foróige presented a bench to Ayleen O’Malley last night in appreciation of all the help and support she has shown Foróige over her many years of service on the Louisburgh Town Hall Committee.

Louisburgh Foróige took their Facebook to pay tribute to Mrs O’Malley who is retiring from her role after decades of service.

“We wish herself and husband Michael many happy and healthy years of retirement,” the post read.

“We would like to offer a special word of thanks to Fr Mattie (Long) for his lovely contribution to this evening proceedings.

“We know so many more people would have attended this evening but we also know Ayleen doesn’t want a fuss so we agreed to keep this low key.

“Thanks to Louisburgh Area Men’s Shed guided by leader Brenda for transporting and installing the bench for us. Thanks to leader Tommy for sourcing, ordering and arranging delivery of the bench. Thanks to leader Louise for storing the bench for us. Thanks to Ayleen’s many close family and friends that attended this evening. Thanks to our young members that entertained, danced and read prayers throughout the evening.

“The bench is currently located outside the Hall. We hope Ayleen her family and the entire Louisburgh community enjoy this bench for many years to come.

“Thank you Ayleen. From all the team at Louisburgh Foróige.”
