Works are to commence this week on rebuilding the Sheffrey Pass road between Delphi and Drummin (Rock Road) in West Mayo.

This will include a new retaining wall, reinforcements to other sections, drainage and the addition of extra lay-bys.

The road had been closed by Mayo County Council last month due to “public safety” concerns.

“I have requested additional diversion signs at the Liscarney junction so tourists are aware of the problem in advance,” Cllr Peter Flynn said in post on social media.
