Mayo County Council Arts Service are delighted to announce a series events taking place this weekend, May 27 to 29, as part of the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme (LLPPS).

The scheme is to support those working in the commercial arts and culture sectors by developing events that engage the services of local professional artists, musicians, technicians, producers and other professional practitioners involved in live performances.

Wonders of the Wake performances starring David Durham, Caitríona Ni Cheannabhain, Maria Hartnett, Kate Heneghan and Kevin Toolis will take place on May 27 at Clare Island Community Club at 8pm and on May 28 in Inis Turk Community Centre at 9pm. The Wonders of the Wake celebrates the joy and the haunting lament of a traditional Irish Wake with music, song and spoken word.

As part of Home to Mayo celebrations in Ballina and in partnership with the Ballina Fringe Festival, The Mournful Croon is taking place in the Ballina Arts Centre on May 28 at 8pm. Join this celebration of Mayo Folk Song, featuring a number of Mayo’s established and experienced singers of folk and traditional Irish songs.

Staying in Ballina, on Sunday May 29 from 2pm – 6pm, they have Trad sessions in the Tent, showcasing pieces from Brendan Farrell’s ‘Take Me Home’ show and Trad session with Hup as part of a wider programme of family friendly events, taking place at the Market Square Ballina.

Finally, they have new arts collective #Stateofus presents Scéalaíocht‘s Samhlaíocht, a storytelling event with live music and projected imagery. Events take place on May 28 at Shrule Community Centre at 6pm and in The Friary, Ballyhaunis at 6pm on May 29.
