Ballyglass Coast Guard Search and Drone Unit’s team of volunteers were tasked last night at 11.15pm to secure the Helicopter Landing Strip at Blacksod lighthouse.
Rescue 118 was coming in to refuel. They had been tasked earlier to a yacht that had lost all power 35 miles off Achill Head. The RNLI Achill Lifeboat was also tasked.
The lifeboat crew managed to secure tow lines on the stricken yacht and began to tow the vessel back towards Achill.
At approximately 10am this morning the lifeboat arrived at Clare Island where they found a safe mooring for the yacht.
The lifeboat crew then proceeded to make their way to their own mooring in Achill where they refuelled their boat in preparation for their next call out.
