Basking sharks have made their return to the coast of Mayo over the last few weeks.
The beautiful creatures have been spotted off Achill where they seem to make their yearly holidays.
Basking sharks can grow up to 10m in length and are the world’s second largest fish (after the whale shark). They are viewed as generally harmless to humans, being plankton eaters, though it is recommended not to get too close as their powerful tailfins can easily capsize a kayak or small craft.
Achill Tourism’s Facebook page shared a video of this lone basking shark that reached over 2.5 million people.
Instagram user Joshua Nueva shared this stunning video of a group of basking sharks between Keel beach and Keem Bay.
