The RNLI Achill Island Lifeboat crew has thanked the organisers for the Christmas Day Swim in Clare Island for pledging all proceeds made on the day to their service.
Ever since the establishment of the Lifeboat Station in Achill way back in 1995, their neighbours on Clare Island and Inishturk Island have been steadfast in their support for this voluntary service which depends entirely on the generosity and donations from the public.
They greatly appreciate this support from the island communities which have to continually fight for funding to maintain life with its own challenges on their own islands.
The RNLI Achill Island Lifeboat crew took to social media to thank the Clare Island community.
“We therefore again record our appreciation to the Clare Island community who have again donated the proceeds of their Christmas Day Swim to the Achill Island Lifeboat.
For those who have never visited, put it on your bucket list for this year. There are regular licensed ferry services and excellent accommodation when you get there. There are wonderful looped walks, one of which brings you to the old Lighthouse which is well worth a visit. Thank you again folks!”
