The body of a Galway man who had been missing for more than five months was recovered on Saturday.

Stephen Cunningham was reported missing on November 7, 2021 from his home in Tir na gCapaill, Ballybrit, Galway and after sightings in Ballaghaderreen and Westport, his car was found near the N59 at Bunnakill, Maam Cross, Co Galway on November 10.

Extensive searches of the area had failed to locate the 32-year-old until yesterday when in a post on social media, Stephen’s family confirmed the news that they had found their brother and brought him home.

“Thank you everyone for all the support over the last few months. It truly means a lot to all of us,”

Gardai have commenced an investigation following the discovery.
