A gorse fire which broke out in the Foxford area and lit up the sky last night has been brought under control by the Mayo Fire Service.

Local Fine Gael councillor Neil Cruise has praised the efforts of local residents and the fire service for ensuring the fire was managed and did not result in any loss of life or property.

“Well done to the residents of Churchpark, Corlee, Larganmore and Glanduff, who along with units of MCC’s fire service ensured there was no loss of houses or life due to severe gorse fires last night,” said Cllr Cruise.
