Knockmore native Laurita Blewitt was reunited with her cousin, US president Joe Biden, yesterday.

The host on the popular Tommy, Hector & Laurita podcast shared a photo of herself with president Biden on her Twitter account saying, “Sorry I was busy today”.

Laurita and Biden’s great-great-great grandfather, brickmaker Edward Blewitt, left his home in a small laneway off Ballina’s Garden Street in 1851 and settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Edward Blewitt’s daughter Geraldine married Ambrose Finnegan, late of Co Louth. Their daughter, Catherine Jean, in turn married Joseph Biden, the president’s father.

Laurita and her older brother Joe have met Biden several times. In 2016, the Blewitts met Biden in Ireland when he visited as the 47th vice president of the United States, and in 2017 in the White House, when Biden was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

The Blewitts weren’t able to attend Biden’s inauguration in January 2021 because of the Covid situation.
