A famous charity known for rescuing and re-homing hens are coming to Mayo.

Littlehill Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, who are based in Kildare, are known rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing abandoned, abused and neglected animals. They specialise in re-homing ex-commercial egg-laying hens.

They are still looking to re-home lots of hens so they will be heading west. On St Patrick’s Day, they will be in Ballina, Charlestown and Swinford. The following day will see them visit Tuam. On the Sunday, they will be stationed in Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar and Castlerea.

They are calling on anyone looking to adopt a hen to: private message them on Facebook and bring adequate carriers or boxes with lots of air holes. You must also pay an adoption fee of €7-10 because they do not want the hens to be used as bait.

“They are the most fantastic little pets. They are being selectively bred over the years and they are like a little pet dog. They will follow you everywhere and we would have loads of elderly people and kids who love them. We would pull into car-parks and you would see children jumping up and down with joy with the hens,” Susan Anderson from Littlehill Animal Rescue & Sanctuary told the Western People.

If you have any interest in re-homing and having a hen as a pet, contact Littlehill Animal Rescue & Sanctuary on Facebook.
