A new group to promote tourism in East and South Mayo is being proposed.
It has been reported that Foxford-based Mayo Co councillor Neil Cruise will bring the notice of motion before a Claremorris/Swinford Municipal District meeting next week.
Cllr Cruise is asking his fellow councillors and management of the municipal district to investigate and consider the possibility of setting up a body to be called Mayo South East Tourism.
The body will market the tourism potential of the Claremorris/Swinford area. The primary aim of the initiative will be to attract more tourists into the area.
The group will then work with all relevant bodies such as – Mayo Co Council’s capital tourism unit, tourism interests within the county, Fáilte Ireland and relevant government tourism departments to attract visitors to the area.
