Three goals in the final quarter sent Castlebar Mitchels into the All-Ireland Ladies Club IFC final, after they defeated Castleisland Desmonds 3-7 to 2-7 in Páirc Josie Munnelly this afternoon.
It was 0-6 to 0-5 in favour of the home side at the second half water break and that stoppage appeared to work wonders for the Mitchels as full-forward Laura Brody found the net almost immediately after the restart. Straight from the kickout, Castlebar won the ball and Brody turned provider, laying it off to Niamh Hughes, who rocketed it into the back of the net.
On the 50th minute, Danielle Caldwell made a fantastic solo-run through the centre and raised a green flag as they now led 3-7 to 0-6.
However, the Kerry side weren’t going away as Amy Curtin and Julie Ann Twomey found the net down the home stretch to ensure a nervy finish for the Mayo champions.
Nevertheless, they held on to reach the All-Ireland final, where they will await the winners of tomorrow’s clash between Dublin’s St. Sylvester’s and Fermanagh’s Kinawley.
