Vigils in memory of Ashling Murphy will take place throughout the county over the next number of days.

The 23-year-old school teacher was attacked and killed while out running in Tullamore, Co Offaly yesterday afternoon.

A vigil will take place in Castlebar today at 6.30pm. Attendees are asked to meet at Lough Lannagh Car Park, to bring a candle or tea light and to adhere to social distancing.

The NoName Club from Crossmolina will hold a vigil at the lake at 7pm today in memory of Ashling. Fr Judge will say a prayer and attendees are asked to adhere to social distancing.

There will be a Community Vigil at the Plaza in Knock this evening at 7pm. Some tea lights will be available but attendees are asked to bring them where possible.

A candlelit prayer vigil will take place around the Mall River in Westport this evening at 8pm in memory of Ashling and in solidarity with all who have the right to exercise safely. Candles will be provided and attendees are asked to space out and keep their distance.

On Saturday at 3pm, there will be a socially distanced vigil on Market Square, Castlebar. Organisers have asked people to come out and show solidarity.

In Ballina, the community will gather together at the River Moy across from St Muredachs Cathedral at 7pm to pay their respects. Attendees are asked to maintain social distancing throughout and to bring candles or use the torch on their phone as part of the candlelit vigil.
