Donegal TD and Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue says he is confident the mica and pyrite redress scheme is one that will fully support the families impacted.

The scheme is to cover 100 per cent of re-building costs, up to a maximum of €420,000.

It would also see a building standards regulator established to ensure a similar defective blocks scandal won’t occur again.

Minister McConalogue says the Government will move quickly to action the scheme.

“Government will be looking to ensure that legislation will be in as promptly as possible but the key reason why we took our time, in relation to putting this memo together, was to ensure that all the details in terms of the principles could be clear. I’m very glad with the outcome we have had today is one that will fully support families.”
