Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien has said changes to the mica and pyrite redress scheme will be “significantly better” than the current version. He says work on the scheme is almost finished and he hopes to bring it to cabinet next week.

Speaking on Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live today, Minister O’Brien said he is hoping to bring it to Cabinet by Tuesday.

“I’m hoping to be able to bring the revision of the scheme back to Cabinet next Tuesday. We remain contact with the working groups. Will residents know before Christmas? Absolutely.

“I’m focusing on concluding the work that we have, I’ve been going through it with residents, and I’m hoping to go to Cabinet with it on Tuesday. The revisions to the scheme that I will bring forward will be significantly better than what was there.”

O’Brien did not go into any detail when asked if there will be a 100% redress, but he is confident that people will be happy.
